Rose, oltre ad essere un nome femminile e a richiamare il nome del fiore, è anche l'anagramma della parola EROS. La rosa rosso cremisi è simbolo di amore, passione e seduzione, mentre la forma del fiore è da sempre simbolo di completezza e grazia. Le sue spine, invece, evocano sangue e martirio. Papa Adriano VI fece scolpire sui confessionali una rosa a 5 petali, a simboleggiare il sacro vincolo della riservatezza della confessione, e la frase latina "Sub rosa" significava appunto segretezza assoluta. Nella rosa, dunque, si fondono due elementi dell'erotismo: ciò che è nascosto, celato, segreto ma che può allo stesso tempo essere svelato, rappresentando gli archetipi.
